Winter Brights

30 January 2013

Hello All! Winter brights is the theme for today. As I've mentioned before, I do not shy away from color in the winter so this bright yellow peacoat is right up my alley. A standout coat can make the simplest outfit pop. I wore an oxford button up with straight leg jeans which is pretty much my every day wardrobe. This coat really changes things up a bit.

Today also marks the debut of my new bean boots, yay!! I was so happy so see snow on the ground just so I could wear them! I feel super cool to own a pair of these American classics! I didn't particularly care for them with the straight leg jeans but nevertheless....

This post also features a cameo from my hubby:

Coat: J Crew (sold out)
Jeans: Banana Republic (old)
Scarf: Land's End Canvas (old)
Boots: LL Bean (here)

A Touch of Lilac

27 January 2013

Hello All! Hope everyone enjoyed their weekend. We received a few inches of snow this weekend but it did not stop me from getting out to take a few pics. I layered a gingham shirt in lilac with a v-neck sweater in soft peach.  I originally wanted to combine the gingham with a navy sweater but decided on the peach instead.

I must say, i'm loving this color combo! The colors are so soft and feminine. The colors scream Spring, which I so desperately want to be here now!! I just scored this gingham shirt from J Crew at an awesome price. They are currently running an additional 50%  off on final sale items in their store. In addition, I was able to use my 15%  teacher's discount, score!! It's such a  simple outfit, perfect for work (my job has a very casual dress code) or for running errands on the weekend.

21 January 2013

Hello All! I'm happy to announce that Angela of Selfless Ambition recently nominated me for the Liebster Award! Thank you so much for the nomination, Angela!! For those of you who don't know, the Liebster Award is an award given to up and coming bloggers with 200 followers or less. It's a fantastic way to promote your blog and meet new bloggers.

When you are nominated for the Leibster Awards there are a few simple rules you must follow.

Here are the rules:
  1. Post 11 random facts about yourself.
  2. Answer the 11 questions the nominator(s) asked.
  3. Nominee should come up with 11 new nominees and 11 questions for your nominees to answer.
  4. Nominees should have less than 200 followers and should link back to you on their Liebster blog post.
Here are 11 random facts about me:
  1. I am extremely, extremely shy which many people interpret as being bitchy.
  2. I'm a geek and I'm totally ok with that!
  3. I absolutely hate to cook; I find no joy in it and do it out of necessity.
  4. I love to read and would much rather be at home with my face in a book than interacting with   people.
  5. I can live in heels, too bad I'm a teacher and have to stand on my feet all day.
  6. I can't resist a sale. Therefore, I'm trying really, really hard to stay away from malls.
  7. I'm a die hard Giants fan, which surprises people since I'm such a girlie-girl. You can thank my husband for that!
  8. I am terrified of spiders to the point where I may start to cry.
  9. I'm extremely anal and a total neat freak!!
  10. I don't like mean-spirited people.
  11. I like to begin and end my day with a cup of tea.

Here are Angela's questions and my answers:

  7. If you could have anyone design your home (and money was no object), who would you choose? I honestly don't think I would want anyone to design my home. There are certain things that I find joy in doing on my own, decorating my home would be one of them.

    Wardrobe Remix: The Chambray

    14 January 2013

Ladies and gentleman, my search for the perfect chambray shirt is finally over! I've been looking for the perfect chambray shirt for some time now and my lovely husband bought me this one for Christmas. I love it so much that I've already worn it twice since unwrapping it on Christmas day, and that is very rare! The chambray shirt is a must have, in my opinion, because it is so versatile and can be worn all year long; alone or as a layering piece.

I recently wore my chambray shirt two weeks ago with green denim. Here's how I remixed my wardrobe by pairing it with a black skirt and tights.

    Seeing Green

    07 January 2013

Today's post features a very popular trend last year: colored denim! I must confess, this is my very first pair of colored denim. Yes, I know, where have I been? I've seen them in every store and thought, it's just not practical. But after the holidays, J Crew had all their colored denim on sale for $29.99 with an additional 30% off. Needless to say, I didn't have anymore excuses. I picked this amazing bright green pair because they say emerald will be the color of 2013. Plus, it's so gorgeous!!! I paired it with a chambray shirt and a statement necklace. I must say, I am loving this outfit! It made me so happy just to wear it; I couldn't help but feel cheerful all day. Silly, I know, but an outfit can do that at times!

    Stripes & Navy

    02 January 2013

Hello!! Hope everyone had a safe and happy new year!! This year, I've made two style resolutions: 1) to wear more skirts and dresses and 2) to take more style risks. I've always leaned towards jeans and pants over a skirt or dress, unless I was going to a party or fancy dinner. So, this year, I want to wear more skirts and dresses just because.  The second resolution is strictly for the blog; I've always played it safe with my style so it would be interesting to shake things up a bit!

Of course, my first post of the year does not incorporate either of the two but I did try something new: the ankle jeans with booties trend!!! I've seen so many people do it and look so fashionable so I tried it over the weekend. I must confess, I wasn't truly comfortable and changed into riding boots before the day was up. Maybe I should have rolled up the jeans, they just looked like highwaters to me. But here are the pics, you be the judge.
